Popular Baby Names in the UK in 2005

Although his popularity drops, Jack is the most popular names for boys back in England and Wales – it is 11 years at the helm! However, 14% of the boys were baptized at the Jack in the past year, so we could see a change at the top, in 2006. Jack is back in Northern Ireland and Lewis retained the leading position in Scotland with Jack the runner-up.

Jessica was the name of the most popular girl in England and Wales has risen from third in 2004. Emily, the name at the top of last year, in second place. Olivia has climbed three places to fourth place, while Ellie, last year, fell to second place to sixth place.

In England and Wales climbers in the table of girls Grace (7 to up to 4), Ruby (up to 16 to 15), Evie (up to 10 to 29), Phoebe (plus 9 to 35), Keira (up to 13 to 38) and Scarlett (up to 25 to 47). New entries are Sienna to 69, 78 Eva, Demi, 80, Amelia and Ava at 82 to 84 Name to drop among the top 100 Jade tumbled position 24 in 2001, Jennifer and Chelsea.

The names of the boys are, as always, less volatile. The first four names are unchanged and it is only the new name in the top 50 – Leo, which climbs 20 places to 37th place Other climbers are Mason and Freddie, while Corey, Zachary, Zak and Hayden new entries. Names are on the top 100, Tom and Josh.
In Scotland, the name of the first two boys are unchanged. Biggest movers are Callum (seven places to number 3), Alexander (up 8 to 17) and Aiden (up to 9 to 20).

The first two names of the girls have moved to places with Sophie Emma turned over in popularity. Other changes include Leah up 6 to 14 note, and Lauren up from 6 20

In Northern Ireland there were some big movers in the waiters. The largest Faller was Dylan, down from 7 to 15, and the biggest climber was Jake, up to 9 16 Patrick and David are no longer in the top 20th

There was more movement on behalf of the girls, although the first two remained the same. Climbers included Ellie, to 1 to 3; Niamh, up to 2 to 5, Hannah, from 6 to 6; Anna, an increase of 6 to 9 and Leah at 8-9. Fallers include Chloe from 4 to 12; Rachel from 4 to 14, and Aimee after 9 to 18.
